Soma Wolverine v3.0 Daily Grinder 11
$2,450.00 - $2,850.00
We're calling this a 2019 model, and here's why. The newest edition of our Wolverine commuter housebuild, which we call the Daily Grinder, gets major upgrades yet costs around $500 less than the best 2017/2018 Wolverine Daily Grinder: -The new V3 Wolverine frame with redesigned rear dropouts and new colors (red and pearl black), handbuilt with Tange Prestige cromoly. (We still have some V2 frames if you'd like to save $100) -Alfine 11 internally geared hub with your choice of 50/22 gearing (ideal for high speeds and flatter terrain) or lighter 46/22 gearing (better for climbing). Previous editions used the Alfine 8 hub. -A Shimano dynamo hub powering Supernova premium lights. -Panaracer Pasela 700x38 gumwall tires for a confident and supple road feel (substitutions OK with a price differential). -Ergonomic grips. -Lighter, stiffer rims for strength and speed. -Full-coverage alloy Velo Orange fenders We're also carrying over the best features from the previous edition: -Gates belt drive -Shimano hydraulic disc brakes -Your choice of a traditional lugged steel fork or Soma's All-Road carbon fork (with a price differential) -An alloy rear rack If you'd rather have one of the previous Wolverine colors (pumpkin orange or flat black) on a V2 or V2.1 frame, we can do that for $100 less, subject to the availability of your size and color. Just get in touch. Notes: specs subject to change without notice. Specs last updated 8/14/18. The photos may show optional equipment.
Marin Fairfax SC6 DLX
$1,899.00 $2,349.00 19% Savings
Marin has given us permission to ship the SC6. We fully assemble, ride, and tune bikes before shipping them. No tax for non-Oregon residents. Oregon residents have a $15 bike tax, but we'll pay that for you just this one time. Unlike almost all other bike manufacturers, Marin seems to have paid close attention to the national "ultimate urban bike" and "ultimate utility bike" competitions that Oregon Manifest has organized in the past few years. A preponderance of those bikes share a set of attributes that we wish were on all urban-oriented bikes: Gates Carbon Drive (belt drive)--cleaner, more durable, much lower maintenance than a chain An internally geared hub such as Shimano Alfine 11--cleaner, more reliable, longer lasting, with far less maintenance, no rust, and scant or zero gunk Disc brakes, particularly hydraulic disc brakes for superior stopping power and modulation in all kinds of weather (especially rain) A dynamo hub with front and rear dynamo lights--a complete, very powerful, autonomous lighting system you pretty much never have to worry about Fenders--of course A rack--of course Now, these also happen to be the attributes that most of the bikes we sell go out the door with. That is, after we're finished rebuilding the front wheel around a dynamo hub and adding the lights, rack, fenders, and whatnot. Marin has made its own version of such a bike, right out of the box: the Fairfax SC6. This one is sold mostly in Northern Europe, with small numbers available in North America. Not skimping on the details, Marin spec'd the Fairfax SC6 with exactly the things we use on high-end custom builds: outstanding Supernova front and rear lights, which are about as good as it gets Shimano Alfine dynamo hub Super high-quality, puncture-resistant, long-lasting tires (Schwalbe Marathon Supreme, 700x32) stiff aero rims (seriously, you'll be surprised what a difference this makes to your speed) Shimano T445 hydraulic disc brakes High-quality 6061 aluminum tubing Carbon fork with alloy steerer Internal cable routing Alfine 11 internal gearing with a very wide, 409% gear range Gates Carbon Drive CenterTrack belt system with 50/22 gearing, which optimizes the Alfine 11 hub's range for spirited city riding in places without steep hills. We can adjust gearing down to 46/22 without a problem, for $65. Ergon brand ergonomic grips Fenders (alloy) powdercoated to match the stealthy, matte black frame A Racktime Custom Integrated Match-It QL3 rear rack with mounting systems for Ortlieb and Racktime bags (as well as other bags) A chainstay-mounted kickstand In short, it's like Marin gets us. For sizing information and more information, see Marin's SC6 page.

Its efficient design gives it the speed of a road bike, while its comfortable yet sporty geometry keeps you aware of what's going on around you, making it perfect for moving rapidly through urban streets. The Presidio's myriad of purpose-built commuter components helps you worry about the commute, and not worry about the mechanicals. The Hydraulic disc brakes offer more than just safe, secure stopping power in all conditions, but also enhances long-term service, as there are no cables or housing to wear out. Puncture resistant tires ensure your commute isn't abrupted by debris in the road, and their reflective sidewalls help keep you visible in low light conditions. A semi-plush saddle, ergonomic grips, and large platform pedals are ideal for riding comfortably in a variety of clothes and shoes and make it easy to get out and enjoy your commute. - Gates Carbon Belt Drive - 8-speed internally geared rear hub
Marin Presidio 4
$2,349.00
Presidio 4 is the successor to the Fairfax SC6 and among the very best-spec'd, best-conceived, best-equipped commuter bikes on the market. It features Gates Carbon Drive (belt drive), an Alfine 11 internally geared hub, Alfine dynamo hub, Supernova lights, Tubus Racktime rack, color-matched metal fenders, and a kickstand. Compare to our Daily Grinder commute version of the Soma Wolverine, and you'll find mostly identical specs as well as a few differences: -Presidio has an aluminum frame and carbon fork, whereas the Wolverine Daily Grinder has a Tange Prestige cromoly frame and either a cromoly or carbon fork. -Presidio has Continental Sport Contact II 700 x 32 tires, while the Wolverine Daily Grinder has wider (700 x 38) Panaracer Pasela gumwall tires. --Presidio comes with higher gearing than Wolverine: 50/22 vs 46/22, although we give our customers the option of 46/22 with Presidio at no charge (just ask). How to know which ratio is for you? If you don't have steep hills to climb and/or a lot of stuff to haul around, and/or if you're a strong rider who likes to go fast, 50/22 should do well for you. If you have climbs to do like those in the West Hills of Portland, or if you're in Seattle, San Francisco, or other hilly locales, 46/22 is recommended. If you're not sure which one you'll like better, don't hesitate to ask us for guidance. This bike was very highly reviewed when it went by its previous moniker: the Fairfax SC6 DLX. Pro tip: as the 2019 Presidio 4 is just about identical to the 2018 Fairfax SC6 DLX, you should know that we have most sizes of the latter on sale for $1899, and that we can ship them. We aren't allowed to ship the Presidio. See Related Items.

Surly Straggler
$1,650.00
So what is this Straggler anyway? The easy answer is to say that Surly added disc brakes to a Cross-Check and this is close to accurate. People have asked them to make a disc version of their highly versatile Cross-Check for a long time now and almost everything about the two are very similar. Straggler is slightly different, though. The most obvious difference of course is that the Straggler has disc caliper mounts instead of rim brake studs. It'll accept rotors up to 160mm. The rear dropouts are unique, too. They're a partially closed horizontal design that accommodates singlespeed or geared drivetrains. They feature stop screws that thread in from the rear to further secure the wheel and to position the rear wheel for optimal shifting, plus a forward-mounted stop screw on the drive side to keep the wheel from slipping forward under the force of your gargantuan legs. The rear dropouts are spaced 135mm instead of 132.5mm like the Cross-Check simply because there are far more options for disc hubs in this spacing. Straggler shares all of the Cross-Check's braze-ons for fenders, racks and bottle cages. The Straggler's geometry is slightly different, with angles and tube lengths very close but not identical to the Cross-Check, but like the Cross-Check it's ready to take you just about anywhere. It's a day tripper and a weekender. It's a 'rough road' road bike. It's a cyclocross bike with no pretense about racing. It's a utilitarian townie. It's a light-duty touring bike. It's an all-weather commuter. And when you get tired of one set up, you can swap parts around and turn it into something else. We think that's pretty neat. - Fender eyelets at the dropouts, front and rear rack bosses and dual water bottle mounts, downtube shifter mounts - 100% Surly proprietary 4130 chromoly tubing. TIG-welded, double-butted main triangle - Forward-exiting horizontal dropouts with adjusters give you singlespeed compatibility and wheelbase adjustability to help you fit the tires and fenders you want to run with that drivetrain you want to run. - Frame is ED Coated for increased life expectancy
Surly Straggler 650b
$1,259.00 - $1,650.00
The price of the Straggler has gone up to $1650, but our 650b Stragglers are on a quick sale for $1299. This price applies only to in-stock sizes. We're having a little trouble getting the sale price to appear here but should have that fixed on 11/24/18. Call the shop with any questions. 650b what? In the old days when randonneuring bikes ruled on long rides over mixed surfaces, the 650b tire size was perfectly suited for moving fast under control. Surly took this concept and applied it to the Straggler, a disc brake-equipped any-road type of bike bred from their revered Cross Check. The slightly smaller wheels accommodate smaller frame sizes and plump tire widths, creating options where few exist in this realm of bike riding. Disc brakes highlight the Straggler 650b story, sporting Hayes CX Experts with 160mm rotors front and rear. The athletic character continues with a SRAM Apex 2x10 drivetrain, giving you a useful gear range for any type of riding you can dream up, and continues with 32-hole alloy Alex Adventurer 2 rims wrapped in Surly's own super-versatile 650b x 41 Knard rubber. A Salsa Cowbell handlebar is great for riding on mixed terrain, too, giving you a bit more control when it's loose while retaining comfortable positioning for cranking into the wind. Make it your gravel explorer on weekends, your trusty commuter during the week, and go collect all the hand-ups when cyclocross season rolls around. This Straggler's lookin' for a good time and you seem like the type to oblige.

Taggart Cycles Purple Rando 55cm Complete Bike
$4,000.00
Taggart Cycles is a brand of steel rando bikes handmade in Portland by one of our own (former) mechanics named Alex, who is also the founder of the Lost Horizons weekly ride group. We're big fans of what he's doing, so when he asked if we wanted to display one of his creations, we said OF COURSE! This randonneur frame can handle almost any challenge that might arise, all while keeping you comfortable and happy. At first glance, what stands out about this frame is the craftsmanship. While most frames today are TIG welded, this frame is lugged and fillet brazed. It has no bearing on the ride quality, but it sure looks classic. Despite its appearance, this bike is anything but stuck in the past. It has all the features you need for adventures on and off road. More pics and complete specs coming soon. - TRP Spyre calipers with 180mm rotor in front (ideal for steep offroad descents) - Sugino OX601 super compact crankset - Dynamo lighting with internal wiring. Shutter Precision PD-8 hub, B&M IQ-X, and Schmidt fender mounted tail light - Low trail geometry optimized for front load - Front rack and decaleur with integrated bag retention bungee. Ostrich F-104 handlebar bag - Honjo aluminum fenders. Mounts on the frame are designed to allow for the use of wide fenders without the need for any dimpling. This means they’ll last a long time, and be easy to replace when the time comes - 26” x 2.3” tires are wide but with a diameter similar to that of a standard road wheel. That means you get cushion from the tire while retaining the handling characteristics of a road bike. Chainstays are bent rather than dimpled for superior strength - “Standard” diameter frame tubing. An odd designation since manufacturers generally use “oversized” tubing these days. Standard diameter tubes flex more, yielding a more comfortable ride - The best downtube shifters ever: Simplex retro-friction. Wide-range 8-speed cassette - Seatstay pump peg with Lezyne Road Drive For sale either as a complete, or just frame/fork/fenders/racks/lights Designed and built in Portland. Materials: Columbus Spirit and SL tubing .8/.6/.8 On display now at Joe Bike. Come give it a test ride, and check out all they other great bikes they have! Surly Big Fat Dummy Frameset
$1,599.00 - $1,650.00
The Big Fat Dummy is a long tail cargo bike that took a few too many doses of growth hormones. At first glance, you might say that Surly just put bigger tires on a Big Dummy. But if you said that, you'd actually be very wrong so just… don't. Think of Big Fat Dummy as more of a second or third cousin to Big Dummy rather than a brother. They share some of the same DNA and look sort of similar, but they're two very different bikes and really only interact when they both reach for the potato salad spoon at that family reunion that no one really wants to be at anyway. Now that that's out of the way, let's get down to the nitty gritty of what makes this hulking beast of a bike tick. Surly's goal with designing a cargo bike around fat tires was to create the most stable, stiff, and traction-laden ride possible while hauling a ton of stuff. Big Fat Dummy has a longer toptube and slacker headtube than its more svelt cousin giving it a nice, predictable, and stable ride. They also used thinner, lighter tubing to construct its cargo area so while it's an overall burlier bike, there's not much difference in weight. Big Fat Dummy accepts either 10mm or 12mm axles in the rear with a spacing of 190/197mm. That big ‘ol spacing equates to one thing: tire clearance for days. Big Fat Dummy maxes out at a massive 26 x 5.25" tire.* While that large of a tire provides the most traction and stability a bike can possibly offer, it's also a lot of rubber to push and might not be for everybody. Luckily, Big Fat Dummy is also a blast to ride with 3" tires too. It uses the same 100mm suspension-corrected fork as the Wednesday, meaning if you want to add a little squishy-squishy to your ride, you can throw a Bluto on and let ‘er rip. If you intend to carry a passenger on your Big Fat Dummy, Surly requires use of their Dummy Rail Collars. These provide a secondary retention system for the rack, as well as stiffen the rack system. In addition, a stoker handlebar set up, found on tandem bicycles, is recommended as well. Make sure to check with seat post manufacturer for stoker handlebar compatibility. All Big Fat Dummy framesets and bikes ship with a Dummy deck, rails, bags, and the aforementioned Dummy Rail Collars so you can immediately start hauling cargo — human or otherwise. Big Fat Dummy is ready and willing to carry all sorts of crap — literally. It's already in use on an organic farm in Ecuador so it's likely that it's hauled some form of manure by now. *Using a 26 x 5.25" tire will cause some drivetrain limitations. For all the nuts and bolts of compatibility read Surly's blog on the subject.

All-City Big Block
$999.00
The Big Block represents our vision of the ideal track frame for the modern fixed-gear rider. This is the track bike that All-City has always dreamed of owning and they are proud to make that dream available to you. It was designed first and foremost as a true competition-ready track frame but was destined to see usage beyond the velodrome, so they made some tweaks to the equation. Instead of the track bike norm 25c max tire clearance, it fits a 32c cross tire and has a single set of water bottle mounts for all day in the saddle. The front and rear of the bike are drilled out for a brake, so single speeding (or double brake fixed) is no problem. The proprietary 612 Select double-butted cro-moly steel soaks up bumps and sprints like a champ. Each piece of tubing on every frame size has been carefully scrutinized and specifically chosen to create the best ride possible. This includes butting placement, tubing diameter and wall thickness. The package is finished off with a custom headtube badge, brazed-on seat collar, custom bottom bracket and signature Hennepin Bridge dropouts. All-City added an E.D. coating for rust prevention before applying a classic wet paint finish. Attention to detail is All-City's mantra and it shows in every aspect of this meticulously-designed, beautifully-constructed track racer.

Meanwhile, the Whisky No. 9 thru axle disc carbon fork guides you with precise steering and confident handling. The CS is spec'd with 700 x 40 Clement X'PLOR tires, but can handle up to a 700 x 45—meaning you can also shoe this steed with a 650 x 47 to make it a supreme adventure companion. SRAM Rival 22 drivetrain components complement the Rival hydraulic disc brakes to ensure no path is too steep with snappy shifting and powerful braking, and a Zipp Service Course stem paired to Salsa's comfy Cowbell bar keep the reins light and sturdy. All-City Space Horse Disc
$1,799.00
Combine two parts versatility, one part bike-fueled thirst for the open road, and a dash of Minnesota-bred style, and you've got yourself All-City's Space Horse Disc. The 612 Select chromoly frame and fork blend traditional touring and randonneuring geometry for a bike that's at home on a fully-loaded trek across the state or commuting to and from work. A relatively short rear end and a bottom bracket that’s slightly lower than a standard road bike gives it both agile handling for riding unbridled and increased stability when loaded. With the addition of the all-weather control of Hayes CX-Expert disc brakes, and the ability to fit smaller riders better by utilizing 650B wheels on the 43cm and 46cm versions, this Space Horse is without a doubt the best version yet.  A complete set of rack and fender braze-ons let you dress up the Space Horse in whatever livery you need for your particular adventure. The long and winding road calls for equipment you can count on, and the Shimano 105 drivetrain promises smooth shifts and hill-topping gearing for miles to come. The whole package rolls on a pair of WTB/Formula wheels. Salsa cockpit components and an All-City saddle provide excellent rider contact points. And all the usual All-City details are present, including a pump peg, rust-fighting ED coating, a stylish integrated seatpost clamp, and internal top tube cable routing.

All-City Space Horse Disc Frameset
$650.00
Even if you own a different bike for everything, it's still necessary to have one that can do it all. That bike is the Space Horse. It's become a cult favorite because of its classic styling and ability to handle just about any task or terrain. All-City's Space Horse Disc frameset allows you to build your perfect bike with the addition of all-weather control disc brakes. The geometry is a mix of traditional road and randonneur, with a relatively short rear end and a bottom bracket that’s slightly lower than a standard road bike. This gives it both agile handling for riding unbridled and increased stability when loaded. This blend of geometry and 612 Select tubing create a bike that is capable of quick road centuries, gravel racing, commuting, and of course loaded touring. The frame accommodates front and rear racks, fenders, and tires up to 42c in size for the 700c bikes and 45c for the 650B version. It also utilizes a dropout with a replaceable derailleur hanger. All of the classic All-City touches are present: signature brazed-on seat collar, pantographed bottom bracket shell, pump peg, reinforcements on the bottle bosses, and a beautiful lugged crown fork. The fork sports both a double eyelet on the dropout and mid-blade mounts to allow you to use pretty much whatever front rack you wish.
All-City Space Horse Frameset
$599.00
The Space Horse frameset is the most versatile model in the All-City line. It was designed to accommodate front and rear racks and fenders. It can be built geared or single and has clearance for large 42c tires. The geometry is a mix of traditional road and randonneur geos with a relatively short rear end and a bottom bracket that’s lower than a road bike. This gives the bike agile handling and increased stability when loaded. The lower BB also helps you descend gravel roads like a champ. Its load capacity is 30lbs in the rear and 20lbs in the front. These numbers allowed All-City to choose tubing that is stiff enough to handle a multi-week excursion, yet still rides beautifully and comfortably for unloaded road and gravel adventures. One of the coolest aspects of the Space Horse project was All-City's improvement upon existing semi-horizontal dropouts (the traditional dropout for a bike of this style). The small tab on the front of the dropout in combination with the adjustment screw means that the wheel is fixed in place like a vertical dropout system. You’ll never have to wonder where to get the best shifting. Simply place the wheel fully forward in the dropout and you're done. Its 612 Select frame features the AC custom head badge, brazed-on signature seat collar, signature semi-horizontal dropouts, and custom bottom bracket. There are double eyelets on the dropout, mid-blade mounts on the fork and reinforcements on the bottle bosses. They've also included a pump peg and internal top tube cable routing. Finish it off with an E.D. coating for rust prevention and All-City's beautiful wet paint.
All-City Thunderdome Frameset
$650.00
The Thunderdome is All-City's UCI-approved fire-breathing, track-racing monster! It was designed to do only one thing: go fast! From the distance events to the sprints, the T-Dome has proved itself on the boards of velodromes across the country. Because All-City loves the classics, it boasts traditional round-profile tubing, beautifully polished aluminum sections, replaceable stainless-steel axle pads, a carbon fork, our custom headtube badge and a classic 1 1/8” headtube. It fits a 700 x 25c tire, and the fork is drilled to accept a brake.
Surly Bridge Club
When your bike touring route takes you over the river and through the woods with a quick jaunt through town for supplies, you can't beat the versatility and smooth riding characteristics of Surly's new Bridge Club. First off, it's a Surly so you know the 'Natch chromoly steel frame and fork are built to handle your entire kit and caboodle, and thanks to the typical overabundance of rack and cage provisions you can mount your gear via traditional racks and panniers, go full bikepacking-style, or mix-up your favorite combo of the two. The Bridge Club rolls on plump 27.5 x 2.4-inch WTB Riddler tires for a blend of low rolling resistance on smooth pavement and confident handling on forest trails. You can also run up to a 2.8-inch wide tire for more flotation, or swap-in a 700c wheel and tire combo if your route includes a lot of on-road riding. A dependable 2x10 drivetrain ensures you'll never run out of gears as you make the push up long climbs, and mechanical disc brakes offer worry-free performance to keep you safe no matter what the weather brings. And, thanks to fully housed cabling and front and rear fender mounts, you can splash through soggy days with a smile. A comfortable Salsa Bend flat bar and WTB Volt saddle complete this relaxed all-terrain tourer. If the 2.4" tires seem like overkill, we'd suggest swapping them out for WTB Byway 650b x 47 mm or the new WTB Sendero or Ranger trail tires, which we can do at no charge if it's at the time you pick up your Bridge Club. Tubeless setup is $28 per wheel.

Kona Sutra LTD
$2,199.00
Once upon a time a bunch of mountain bikers dreamed up something wild: a drop bar bike that felt like a mountain bike and rode like a mountain bike. It was made of steel for that added bump absorption, had powerful SRAM Rival 1 hydraulic disc brakes and 1x drivetrain. It had a wider bar with a 16-degree flare that made for more aggressive descending. The Sutra LTD came to reality in all of its dreamy glory and is an absolute riot on-road or off.
