Surly

$649.00 - $899.00
We think by now, most of you get what Straggler is. It’s a madly versatile bike that can be used for most types of riding and riding surfaces. Better still is that you now have the option of 650b wheel size. 650b wheels were popular for a long time many years ago on ‘Constructeur’ style bicycles and we all know how real stuff was back in the day…650b wheels strike a nice balance between the benefits of both 26” and 700c sizes. The smaller wheel allows smaller riders to fit well on smaller frames, produces a stronger wheel, makes fitting big-ass tires easier and are more agile than their larger counterparts. Straggler has disc caliper mounts instead of rim brake studs. It’ll accept rotors up to 160mm. The rear dropouts are unique, too. They’re a partially closed horizontal design that accommodates singlespeed or geared drivetrains. They feature stop screws that thread in from the rear to further secure the wheel and to position the rear wheel for optimal shifting, plus a forward-mounted stop screw on the drive side to keep the wheel from slipping forward under the force of your gargantuan legs. The rear dropouts are spaced 135mm instead of 132.5mm like the Cross-Check simply because there are far more options for disc hubs in this spacing. Straggler 650b has braze-ons for fenders, racks and bottle cages. The geometry is slightly different, with angles and tube lengths very close but not identical to the Cross-Check, but like the Cross-Check it’s ready to take you just about anywhere. It’s a day tripper and a weekender. It’s a ‘rough road’ road bike. It’s a cyclocross bike with no pretense about racing. It’s a utilitarian townie. It’s a light-duty touring bike. It’s an all-weather commuter. And when you get tired of one set up, you can swap parts around and turn it into something else. We think that’s pretty neat.

So what is this Straggler anyway? The easy answer is to say that we added disc brakes to a Cross-Check and this is close to accurate. People have asked us to make a disc version of our highly versatile Cross-Check for a long time now and almost everything about the two are very similar. Straggler is slightly different, though. The most obvious difference of course is that the Straggler has disc caliper mounts instead of rim brake studs. Straggler shares all of the Cross-Check’s braze-ons for fenders, racks and bottle cages. The Straggler’s geometry is slightly different, with angles and tube lengths very close but not identical to the Cross-Check, but like the Cross-Check it’s ready to take you just about anywhere. Steel Commuter and Gravel Bike Preamble is a hard-boiled steel commuter built for comfort, durability, and buffoonery on pavement and gravel. Nothing More is Needed. Nothing Less Will Do. The challenge was thus: Build a serious steel bike and give it only the attributes that matter most. Make it quick and comfortable on pavement, as well as confident and compliant on degraded surfaces. What the Enginerds put forth is Preamble, a pavement and gravel utility worker that proves you don't need to cut corners or clip coupons to make a more affordable steel bike. You just need to keep shit simple. Preamble can run racks and fenders and carry a couple water bottles. Surly was raised on stealing basic cable, after all. Smooth and efficient on asphalt, Preamble's double-butted main triangle provides a resplendent ride feel and withstands abuse from life's inevitable potholes. Make it your own with flat bars, drop bars, a basket, or bags. On the road to steel euphoria, Preamble is the gateway drug. Let facts be submitted to a candid world: - Offered in flat-bar and drop-bar configurations - Easy T-Shirt sizing to fit nearly every rider (XS, S, M, L, XL) - Sloping top tubes on XS and Small frames for improved standover and comfort - To offer the best rider experience for every frame size, XS and S frames get 650b wheelsets while M–XL get 700c - Custom-cast single-position vertical dropout

You're lookin' at the Surly Big Dummy Bag Version 2.0. Just like the original, it's designed to work with Dummy-style rail systems found on cargo bikes like our Big Easy, Big Dummy, and Big Fat Dummy. We've made it easier to install, simpler to use, and refined its size and shape to better suit the stuff we haul most often. The sequel is slightly smaller, but you can still cram two full grocery bags in there on shopping day. Three if you like your potato chips pulverized. The Big Dummy Bag features an expandable cargo flap and side panels that can lie flat or cinch up to accommodate loads of varying dimensions. It also has two sizeable inner pockets with a dedicated divider so you can keep your legal documents tidy. It's furnished with adjustable daisy chains, straps, and buckles to help you secure bulky shit that may not fit otherwise, as well as three stainless steel drainage ports so you can hose it out after hauling your compost to the dump. Lastly, the bag's main body is tough 1680D nylon and its liner is 400D nylon. The material is also bluesign® Approved. So are the buckles and other hardware. This means the materials are sustainably produced to have the lowest possible impact on humanoids and our environment. - 22.5L capacity per bag

Dubbed 'Straggle-Check' frame bags, these bags are designed to fit both 700c and 650b Straggler and 700c Cross Check frames. Size up one size on your bag if you've got a 650b Straggler frame and voila, it fits. These are handmade by Revelate Designs in the U.S., made of Dimension Polyant VX 21 polyurethane coated fabric. It's durable, rip resistant, tightly woven and laminated to make it highly water resistant but not fully waterproof…. Revelate advises using stuff sacks inside (such as the one in which our bags are packaged) if you risk riding in extended downpours or underwater. Surly's Straggle-Check frame bags (as well as their mountain bags) are now using a ladder strap system, which allows greater flexibility in how you attach the bag to your frame. The ladder straps let you customize the fit and placement of the mounting straps so if you have some weird contraption clamped to your frame tubes like a chain keeper, cable pulley, or some trinket grandma gave you, it won't interfere with the mounting straps on the frame bag. They're also including foam bumpers for the mounting straps to minimize thread abrasion to the bag and attachment points Quality YKK brand water resistant zippers – with an improved, water resistant zipper 'garage' – control compartment access and help keep the weather out. Zippers are sewn with a stretch panel to relieve stress on the zipper as well. Stress even kills zippers. The large main compartment has a flexible divider inside, and there's a hydration port to make sure your whistle stays wet. There's also a compartment suitable for smaller items you'll access relatively often, like your map, phone, hard boiled eggs, uncontained pudding, marbles for playing marbles, your dugout, that ring you found that makes you disappear when you put it on, or whathaveyou. Frame bags such as this are light and reasonably voluminous. They are stable because they center weight low between your wheels and body, and they go places where racks and panniers are often troublesome, like singletrack. Note: due to the rough texture of the mounting straps, prolonged use may lead to scratched or worn paint. If you're worried about keeping everything looking pristine you probably ought to look for some other type of bag, or figure a way to protect the paint, such as duct tape, or tatting a top tube doily - for example.

This expedition-worthy rack is made from 4130 chromoly, so it's tough, light and easily repairable in the field. It's also height-adjustable, so you can get your center of gravity as low as possible for a stable ride. The provided stainless steel hardware enables you to attach your rack to most rigid 26-inch and 700c forks equipped with caliper or cantilever brakes. It hauls up to 70 pounds of gear and is powder-coated to protect it from the elements.

Surly Racks are well-thought-out, durable, expedition-worthy racks that work with most panniers. While their racks aren't limited solely to heavy duty touring, that is what they were designed for. When you're out on the road, the best option is to never ever have anything ever go wrong ever. Right? That's never a guarantee though; so having something that you can repair if it does break can be pretty clutch. Thus, the main bodies of Surly's front and rear racks are made from tubular CroMoly steel with stainless hardware. This means you can probably find someone out there that can torch it back into one piece in the rare instance things go south. The Front Rack is height adjustable and provides either a low or high pannier mounting position, which can be handy depending on terrain. When the ground gets rough, keep your gear high and dry. When the path is smooth and easy, you can load things low and keep everything balanced and stable, with the platform above the wheel providing yet more space for more stuff. It's worth mentioning they've redesigned the Front Rack hardware to be simpler to attach and more compatible with things like disc calipers and fenders. Surly also made attachment plates specifically for their Uni-Crown forks for yet more fork compatibility. This simpler design has fewer moving parts and costs less to manufacture; ergo, costs less for you to purchase. Surly's front rack WILL work with disc brakes on the Troll, Ogre, and Disc Trucker frames. It may take a bit of work to get clearance around the front caliper since the many different calipers out there are many different shapes. The new attachment plates will limit any DIY ingenuity you might need, but if you need to throw a washer or three behind the lower left bolt where the plate attaches to the fork dropout, that's not a big deal. As part of Surly's ongoing effort to make this planet last a little longer, they recently started shipping their racks with a small, reusable Surly Tool Bag that houses the rack struts and hardware. This switch helps eliminate the use of some polybags, thereby minimizing excess waste. Plus, you get a free tool bag out of the deal. Surly Front Rack will haul up to 32kg (70 lb) of well-secured, well-balanced gear over roadways and maintained off-road trails. Front Rack specifications: - Tubing diameter: 10mm - Platform dimensions: 230 x 170mm - Weight: 1382g
