Marin Fairfax SC6 DLX frameset
$150.00 $699.00 79% Savings
These are new framesets that had been assembled into complete bikes at the factory. Alloy frame, carbon fork. Compatible with a chain or belt, and with conventional drivetrains, internally geared hubs, or single speed. (Note that if you use a belt, your gearing options are limited to either single speed or an internally geared hub.) The bottom bracket is eccentric, but belt tension is independent of that, so you don't need to mess with the bb when you change a tube or tire or when you reinstall the rear wheel for whatever reason. Want to build your frame up with a conventional drivetrain? Order the derailleur hanger along with the frame (see Related Items). Note: Most of these frames are considered 2016 or 2017 model year because of their graphics. A few are 2018's. Other than the graphics, everything is the same.
Soma Wolverine Daily Grinder (complete city build)
$1,579.00 - $2,475.00 $1,879.00 - $2,975.00 Up To 17% Savings
Joe Bike's own Soma Wolverine Daily Grinder housebuild features all the things we look for in an ultimate commuter bike: belt drive, internal gearing, robust tires, and disc brakes, along with an optional dynamo system, fenders, and rack. Together these give you a weatherproof, clean, quiet, ultra-low-maintenance bike that's ideal for less-than-perfect conditions. Fully rack- and fender-friendly. Semi-sweptback handlebars give you a slightly more upright position than flat bars will, yet still lets you put your impressive strength into your pedalstroke. The 46/22 gearing with Alfine 8 is set up for moderately high-speed riding on your typical mildly hilly Portland terrain (excluding the west hills, that is). However, if you'll be hauling some weight with you, climbing steep grades, or just wanting to take it easy, we can lighten this up by using a 24t cog...or even a 26t...at no extra charge. Just ask. And now, we can build the Daily Grinder up with drop bars, thanks to the recent appearance of Alfine-8 bar-end/downtube shifter from MicroShift and an integrated shifter/levers from Portland's own Gevenalle. Get in touch if you're interested. We're also offering now an 11-speed Wolverine Daily Grinder with dynamo system, rack, and fenders, based on the new v3 frame in red or black. Or you can have us build the same specs using a v2 or v2.1 orange or black frame, subject to the availability of your size and color. You can see pictures here of an orange one with gumwall tires. The 11-speed versions are actually less expensive than the 8-speed, and that's just a function of the super-low price on the complete 11-speed build kits we were able to get. We can also do an Alfine 11 Wolverine with drop bars using Microshift's STI-like 11-speed shifter. Questions people ask us about this bike: Q: Don't I need to adjust the belt tension every time I reinstall the rear wheel, such as when I change a flat? A: No. Soma, along with a few others, "gets" belt drive and have designed their dropouts accordingly. In this case, Soma uses Paragon sliding dropouts. The only time you should need to check and adjust belt tension is in the future, when the belt teeth gradually erode and the tension therefore gradually slackens. This adjustment is easily done on the Wolverine, and you won't have to do it for maybe the first 2,000 miles or so, although this depends on your riding style. The Portlandistan version adds a premium dynamo system, stylish Full Metal Fenders from Portland Design Works, and a light but stiff Axiom Streamliner Disc DLX rack, which has twice the capacity of most racks. Q: Can I make substitutions or other changes? A: Sure, but the price will likely change. We sourced build kits at a lower cost than you'd expect, and that's reflected in the surprisingly low price of the bike. But just let us know what you have in mind (email is best). Q: What are some upgrades I should consider? A: A Brooks Cambium or leather saddle would be nice. Either PDW Whiskey leather ergo grips or Ergon Biokork ergo grips would make good sense. If you want to charge your smartphone, Garmin, or camera off of the dynamo system, the Busch & Mueller Luxos U headlight does that very well, although it's expensive ($258). Kickstands are highly underrated. Schwalbe Marathon Supreme tires would make you the customer of our dreams.

Raleigh Cadent i8 belt-compatible frameset
$199.00 $550.00 64% Savings
Did someone say Fun Bike Project? Did someone say inexpensive belt-drive bike? Now you can build up your own disc-brake, belt-drive bike without spending very much at all. The Cadent frame can be built up almost any way you like: belt/singlespeed, belt/internal gearing, chain/singlespeed, chain/internal gearing, or (with an available derailleur hanger) chain/conventional derailleur. Drop bars can be used instead but will affect handling and body position a bit--remember drop bars will effectively lengthen the cockpit, so you may want to downsize if you're geometrically on the fence. The Cadent i8 frame has a basic road geometry but is designed for flat or swept-back handlebars. It excels as a speedy around-town bike but can be used for much more. Constructed of AL-6061 custom-formed butted alloy tubing with a seatstay splitter (so the belt can go in) and an eccentric bottom bracket shell. Carbon fork with alloy steerer. Includes a quick-release seatpost collar and a headset. Does not include a bottom bracket. Room for tires up to about 36mm. Fender and rack mounts. Belt guard can be removed. This frame is notably lighter than the beefy Raleigh Misceo i8 framesets that we also have, and of course the carbon fork is much lighter than the Misceo's steel fork. These frames are new but were assembled into complete bikes at the factory before we got them.
Raleigh Misceo 4.0 belt-compatible frameset
$99.00 $450.00 78% Savings
If you're belt-drive curious and budget conscious, we now have sturdy, versatile framesets that we're clearing out at very low cost. This frame can be built up almost any way you like: belt/singlespeed, belt/internal gearing, chain/singlespeed, or chain/internal gearing, or (with an available derailleur hanger) chain/conventional derailleur. Great for on-road or trail use. Alloy frame, steel fork. 135 mm rear spacing. Plenty of room for wider tires (up to 45 mm without fenders, 40 mm with) make this suitable for pothole-smoothing urban stompers as well as ungroomed nontechnical trails, rail trails, and the like. Includes seatpost collar and eccentric bottom bracket shell. Does not include a bottom bracket or headset. See Related Items for the derailleur hanger you would need if you're going to use a rear derailleur. These frames were originally built up as complete 2015 bikes in a factory. We disassembled them. They are new. We can ship to anywhere in the contiguous 48 states. If you are outside that area, get in touch for a shipping quote and please provide the frame size, your postal code, and your country.

$1,199.00 - $1,599.00
With the smooth-riding, cargo-hauling characteristics of the Salsa Marrakesh, you might find yourself taking to life on the road for good. Reliability is key on any major tour, and Shimano's Deore 3x9-speed drivetrain paired to Microshift bar-end shifters provides solid shifting performance with easy maintenance and repairability. WTB ST i19 rims laced to Shimano Deore 36-hole hubs increase dependability and offer a robust platform for shouldering weight over paved and gravel roads alike, and Avid's reputable BB7R mechanical disc brakes and 160mm rotors provide confident control no matter what the weather brings. Soma Wolverine Daily Grinder 11
$2,850.00 - $3,250.00
Note: We've been selling a lot of these and are down to a few sizes built and ready to roll, along with one last build kit that can be used for any frame size or color. We're calling this a 2019 model, and here's why. The newest edition of our Wolverine commuter housebuild, which we call the Daily Grinder, gets major upgrades yet costs around $500 less than the best 2017/2018 Wolverine Daily Grinder: -The new V3 Wolverine frame with redesigned rear dropouts and new colors (red and pearl black), handbuilt with Tange Prestige cromoly. (We still have some V2 frames if you'd like to save $100) -Alfine 11 internally geared hub with your choice of 46/22 gearing (ideal for high speeds and flatter terrain) or lighter 46/24 gearing (better for climbing). Previous editions used the Alfine 8 hub. -A Shimano dynamo hub powering Supernova premium lights. -Panaracer Pasela 700x38 gumwall tires for a confident and supple road feel (substitutions OK with a price differential). -Ergon brand ergonomic grips. -Lighter, stiffer rims. -Full-coverage alloy Velo Orange fenders -Abus NutFix security bolts for both wheels -Brooks Cambium All-Weather saddle (C15, C17, or C19) We're also carrying over the best features from the previous edition: -Gates belt drive -Shimano hydraulic disc brakes -Your choice of a traditional lugged steel fork or Soma's All-Road carbon fork (with a price differential) -A Tubus Racktime rack If you'd rather have one of the previous Wolverine colors (pumpkin orange or flat black) on a V2 or V2.1 frame, we can do that for $100 less, subject to the availability of your size and color. Just get in touch.

Marin Fairfax SC6 DLX
$2,195.00
Unlike almost all other bike manufacturers, Marin seems to have paid close attention to the national "ultimate urban bike" and "ultimate utility bike" competitions that Oregon Manifest has organized in the past few years. A preponderance of those bikes share a set of attributes that we wish were on all urban-oriented bikes: Gates Carbon Drive (belt drive)--cleaner, more durable, much lower maintenance than a chain An internally geared hub such as Shimano Alfine 11--cleaner, more reliable, longer lasting, with far less maintenance, no rust, and scant or zero gunk Disc brakes, particularly hydraulic disc brakes for superior stopping power and modulation in all kinds of weather (especially rain) A dynamo hub with front and rear dynamo lights--a complete, very powerful, autonomous lighting system you pretty much never have to worry about Fenders--of course A rack--of course Now, these also happen to be the attributes that most of the bikes we sell go out the door with. That is, after we're finished rebuilding the front wheel around a dynamo hub and adding the lights, rack, fenders, and whatnot. Marin has made its own version of such a bike, right out of the box: the Fairfax SC6. This one is sold mostly in Northern Europe, with small numbers available in North America. Not skimping on the details, Marin spec'd the Fairfax SC6 with exactly the things we use on high-end custom builds: outstanding Supernova front and rear lights, which are about as good as it gets Shimano Alfine dynamo hub Super high-quality, puncture-resistant, long-lasting tires (Schwalbe Marathon Supreme, 700x32) stiff aero rims (seriously, you'll be surprised what a difference this makes to your speed) Shimano T445 hydraulic disc brakes High-quality 6061 aluminum tubing Carbon fork with alloy steerer Internal cable routing Alfine 11 internal gearing with a very wide, 409% gear range Gates Carbon Drive CenterTrack belt system with 50/22 gearing, which optimizes the Alfine 11 hub's range for spirited city riding in places without steep hills. We can adjust gearing down without a problem, for $65. Ergon brand ergonomic grips Fenders (alloy) powdercoated to match the stealthy, matte black frame A Racktime Custom Integrated Match-It QL3 rear rack with mounting systems for Ortlieb and Racktime bags (as well as other bags) A chainstay-mounted kickstand In short, it's like Marin gets us. Bicycling Magazine wrote this about the Fairfax SC6. For sizing information and more information, see Marin's SC6 page. Fairfax is geared a bit higher than Spot Acme and some other bikes with an Alfine 11 drivetrain. This is the one and only complaint we've had with the bike (and it's the one and only complaint in the Outside Magazine review below.) But don't worry: if you've got stuff to carry and hills to climb, we've got a solution for you. Just ask!
Kona Dew Plus
$699.00

Kona Dr. Dew
$999.00
Kona pulled out all the stops with their Dr. Dew. The lightweight, commuter-specific frame and fork deliver an incredibly efficient ride, but never at the expense of fun! A streamlined SRAM 1x11 drivetrain delivers all the gears you need while simplifying the system and lightening the load. Dr. Dew's Shimano hydraulic disc brakes don't care what the weather is like—they bring you to a controlled stop every time, even with a day's worth of gear. Surly Straggler 650b
$1,650.00
650b what? In the old days when randonneuring bikes ruled on long rides over mixed surfaces, the 650b tire size was perfectly suited for moving fast under control. Surly took this concept and applied it to the Straggler, a disc brake-equipped any-road type of bike bred from their revered Cross Check. The slightly smaller wheels accommodate smaller frame sizes and plump tire widths, creating options where few exist in this realm of bike riding. Disc brakes highlight the Straggler 650b story, sporting Hayes CX Experts with 160mm rotors front and rear. The athletic character continues with a SRAM Apex 2x10 drivetrain, giving you a useful gear range for any type of riding you can dream up, and continues with 32-hole alloy Alex Adventurer 2 rims wrapped in Surly's own super-versatile 650b x 41 Knard rubber. A Salsa Cowbell handlebar is great for riding on mixed terrain, too, giving you a bit more control when it's loose while retaining comfortable positioning for cranking into the wind. Make it your gravel explorer on weekends, your trusty commuter during the week, and go collect all the hand-ups when cyclocross season rolls around. This Straggler's lookin' for a good time and you seem like the type to oblige.

Soma Wolverine 700c/650b V2 Frame
$375.00 - $646.00
Joe Bike has built up more Wolverines than any bike shop in the world, so throw us your ideas; we've probably already done it. There are now three fork options for the Wolverine, so we're now selling the frame separately from the fork. See Related Items. The original inspiration for the Wolverine was "monster cross", but it is seriously so much more. Its geometry is stable enough for off road touring, but sporty enough for all-around adventure. With its Tange/IRD Sliding Dropouts, you can turn it into a single-speed CX bike. With a split seatstay, it is compatible with the Gates Carbon Belt Drive. - Clearance for 700x45c tires w/fenders (applies to rear only--fork clearance depends on Wolverine fork and ranges from about 44mm max tire width for the carbon fork, to 44-45mm for the thru-axle steel fork, and about 51mm for the quick-release steel fork). -700c or 650b compatible - Rear hub spacing: 135mm - Gates Carbon belt-drive compatible - Rohloff compatible, and now Rohloff/Gates approved! The Wolverine can be built up any way you like, such as with a belt and internal gearing or a conventional drivetrain. Skinny tires, 650b,.singlespeed, internally geared, or conventional derailleur and chain. Drop bars or flat. This is the updated V 2 frame, which features a seatstay splitter (to get the belt in the frame), whereas in the original frame the split was at the dropout. The V2 offers Rohloff+Gates compatibility, whereas the older frame allowed either/or but not both. We're offering our own Wolverine complete builds optimized for city, gravel, or touring. We call them the Daily Grinder, the Gravelo, and the Weltgrinder Rohloff, respectively. Note that this frame will need to be prepped (faced, chased, T-9 sprayed, etc.). We charge $70 to prep frames bought from us (and $105 for frames not bought from us).

How does One Install a belt on the Second Generation (V2) of the Soma Wolverine Frame?
This version of the Wolverine Soma Frame (V2) comes with what's called a Split Seatstay Design. This allows you to easily install / replace a Gates Belt by unbolting the right seatstay and then sliding the belt through the gap. (see detail pic below)

For the Alfine 8 spd hub, we recommend 46t front, 24t rear, and 115 length belt, with the dropout set at 440mm from the center of the BB axle. We recommend the new Center-Track system. Please note: Shimano Alfine Di2 does not fit on the Wolverine due to the Di2's Belt line is not compatible with the Soma Wolverine.

For the Rohloff hubs (compatible with this Split-seatstay design): For a gravel Grinder setup we love setting it up with a 55t in Front x 19t in back with a 115 Belt; 440.19 chainstay setting is a great starting point. For touring or adventure /trail use, use a smaller front ring.

For Single Speed setups: 46t in front x 26t in back x 115 belt and set the chainstay to 435.19mm

We strongly recommend you use the Gates Drive Calculator to figure out your gearing - it is a real help. We recommend starting with 430mm as a chainstay length. This will help you get a useful belt length when you plug in your preferred f
