Kona Sutra LTD

Riders often come to us with requests for custom builds that are nearly impossible to satisfy with a stock build, and they can be some of the most rewarding projects to complete. This particular bike was designed to be capable of fast gravel riding, fendered touring/commuting, and a wide range drivetrain without the downsides of a triple crank. 

Starting with the super-capable Kona Sutra LTD frameset, we spec’d a drivetrain with a Shimano XT 11s rear derailleur shifting a road crank with a 28/44t chainring. Both derailleurs are controlled by a set of Gevenalle shifters, keeping the controls integrated into the brake levers and removing the need for any adaptors that can degrade shifting across the 11-42t cassette. The wheels are hand built and tubeless ready with DT Swiss hubs and Alex Adventurer rims to keep costs reasonable while still providing a strong, reliable wheel.

We finished things off with some Zipp gravel bars, high contrast fade tape from Snack!, and some WTB Venture tires in 700x50 to roll fast on pavement and smooth dirt, and leave room for fenders in the future. The new owner is planning to create a custom handlebar bag to match the colors of the bike, and once that is complete it will be ready to tackle any dirt tour or gravel grind we could throw at it.
