Touring & Cyclocross
Everybody at Joe Bike loves touring. It’s our favorite mode of distance travel. Some of us have done six-month bike tours of Europe on the Yuba Mundo and Surly Big Dummy, bike-camped up and down the coast of Portugal, circled Oregon for 900 miles on their honeymoon, or crossed the US as teenagers. We can’t make you a teenager again, but you can leave the rest up to us.
A few of our favorite touring bikes include the Soma Saga for loaded touring, Soma Buena Vista and Stanyan for lighter touring, the Surly Long Haul Trucker and, for on- or off-road adventuring, the new Surly Troll. All of these are available as custom builds from Joe Bike.

Cyclocross:
With a quick change of tires, a pair of fenders, a rack, and other accoutrements of the urban cyclist, cyclocross bikes make excellent fast-but-strong all-around city bikes for long and short commutes, as well as for longer weekend rides both on and off the road. They’re even better suited for daily life now that more of them are coming out with disc brakes.
We plan on beefing up our cyclocross lineup.
Stop Cycles/One Ghost Industries Jackhammer: This tiny Portland-based startup produced a run of Jackhammers in Taiwan. Tange Prestige steel, aluminum fork, disc brake tabs and canti posts–a versatile all-around fast bike.
Norco CCX2: aluminum frame, carbon fork, disc brakes, dual-purpose tires, fully rack and fender capable: it’s a race bike you can commute on, or a commuter you can race on, or an adventure bike, at a very attractive price: $1199.
Norco Threshold: full carbon, belt- or chain-compatible (by switching the dropouts–they give you both kinds), fully friendly to racks and fenders. Internal cabling. Jaw-dropping sculpted frame. Run belt drive and an internally geared hub and you have an ideal long-distance commuter.
