Marin Fairfax SC6 DLX
$1,299.00
Unlike almost all other bike manufacturers, Marin seems to have paid close attention to the national "ultimate urban bike" and "ultimate utility bike" competitions that Oregon Manifest has organized in the past few years. A preponderance of those bikes share a set of attributes that we wish were on all urban-oriented bikes: Gates Carbon Drive (belt drive)--cleaner, more durable, much lower maintenance than a chain An internally geared hub such as Shimano Alfine 11--cleaner, more reliable, longer lasting, with far less maintenance, no rust, and scant or zero gunk Disc brakes, particularly hydraulic disc brakes for superior stopping power and modulation in all kinds of weather (especially rain) A dynamo hub with front and rear dynamo lights--a complete, very powerful, autonomous lighting system you pretty much never have to worry about Fenders--of course A rack--of course Now, these also happen to be the attributes that most of the bikes we sell go out the door with. That is, after we're finished rebuilding the front wheel around a dynamo hub and adding the lights, rack, fenders, and whatnot. Marin has made its own version of such a bike, right out of the box: the Fairfax SC6. This one is sold mostly in Northern Europe, with small numbers available in North America. Not skimping on the details, Marin spec'd the Fairfax SC6 with exactly the things we use on high-end custom builds: outstanding Supernova front and rear lights, which are about as good as it gets Shimano Alfine dynamo hub high-quality puncture-resistant tires (Continental Sport Contact II, 700x32) stiff aero rims (seriously, you'll be surprised what a difference this makes to your speed) Shimano T445 hydraulic disc brakes High-quality 6061 aluminum tubing Carbon fork with alloy steerer Internal cable routing Alfine 11 internal gearing with a very wide, 409% gear range Gates Carbon Drive CenterTrack belt system with 50/22 gearing, which optimizes the Alfine 11 hub's range for spirited city riding in places without steep hills. We can adjust gearing down without a problem, for $65. Ergon brand ergonomic grips Fenders (alloy) powdercoated to match the stealthy, matte black frame A Racktime Custom Integrated Match-It QL3 rear rack with mounting systems for Ortlieb and Racktime bags (as well as other bags) A chainstay-mounted kickstand In short, it's like Marin gets us. Bicycling Magazine wrote this about the Fairfax SC6. For sizing information and more information, see Marin's SC6 page. Fairfax is geared a bit higher than Spot Acme and some other bikes with an Alfine 11 drivetrain. This is the one and only complaint we've had with the bike (and it's the one and only complaint in the Outside Magazine review below.) But don't worry: if you've got stuff to carry and hills to climb, we've got a solution for you. Just ask!

Soma Wolverine 700c/650b V2 Frame
$499.00 - $646.00
Joe Bike has built up more Wolverines than any bike shop in the world, so throw us your ideas; we've probably already done it. There are now three fork options for the Wolverine, so we're now selling the frame separately from the fork. See Related Items. The original inspiration for the Wolverine was "monster cross", but it is seriously so much more. Its geometry is stable enough for off road touring, but sporty enough for all-around adventure. With its Tange/IRD Sliding Dropouts, you can turn it into a single-speed CX bike. With a split seatstay, it is compatible with the Gates Carbon Belt Drive. - Clearance for 700x45c tires w/fenders (applies to rear only--fork clearance depends on Wolverine fork and ranges from about 44mm max tire width for the carbon fork, to 44-45mm for the thru-axle steel fork, and about 51mm for the quick-release steel fork). -700c or 650b compatible - Rear hub spacing: 135mm - Gates Carbon belt-drive compatible - Rohloff compatible, and now Rohloff/Gates approved! The Wolverine can be built up any way you like, such as with a belt and internal gearing or a conventional drivetrain. Skinny tires, 650b,.singlespeed, internally geared, or conventional derailleur and chain. Drop bars or flat. This is the updated V 2 frame, which features a seatstay splitter (to get the belt in the frame), whereas in the original frame the split was at the dropout. The V2 offers Rohloff+Gates compatibility, whereas the older frame allowed either/or but not both. We're offering our own Wolverine complete builds optimized for city, gravel, or touring. We call them the Daily Grinder, the Gravelo, and the Weltgrinder Rohloff, respectively. Note that this frame will need to be prepped (faced, chased, T-9 sprayed, etc.). We charge $70 to prep frames bought from us (and $105 for frames not bought from us).

Helpful FAQ's

How does One Install a belt on the Second Generation (V2) of the Soma Wolverine Frame?
This version of the Wolverine Soma Frame (V2) comes with what's called a Split Seatstay Design. This allows you to easily install / replace a Gates Belt by unbolting the right seatstay and then sliding the belt through the gap. (see detail pic below)

Soma Wolverine V2 Split Seatstay detail photo

What are the best style of Brakes to use with the Soma Wolverine?
The best option are brakes that have 160mm rotors (for great stopping power) and that fit international standard mounts that are specced on the Wolverine.
I want to build up the Wolverine, wwhat are the specs I need in order to get the right components?
Front derailleur clamp: 28.6mm
Rear hub spacing: 135mm
Seatpost: 27.2mm
Seat Collar: 29.8mm to 30mm (NOT INCLUDED W FRAME)
Headset: 1-1/8" external cup (SHIS: EC34/28.6 | EC34/30)
Bottom Bracket Shell: 68mm wide, English Threaded
Brake Compatibility: 160mm rotors, International Standard Disc mounts
Chainstay length range: 425-440mm (Soma Fabrications strongly recommend you avoid placing wheel in the Very back of dropout- bad things happen)
Water bottle bosses: 2 sets of mounts
What is the recommended Carbon Drive Setup for the Soma Wolverine
For the Alfine 8 spd hub, we recommend 46t front, 24t rear, and 115 length belt, with the dropout set at 440mm from the center of the BB axle. We recommend the new Center-Track system. Please note: Shimano Alfine Di2 does not fit on the Wolverine due to the Di2's Belt line is not compatible with the Soma Wolverine.

For the Rohloff hubs (compatible with this Split-seatstay design): For a gravel Grinder setup we love setting it up with a 55t in Front x 19t in back with a 115 Belt; 440.19 chainstay setting is a great starting point. For touring or adventure /trail use, use a smaller front ring.

For Single Speed setups: 46t in front x 26t in back x 115 belt and set the chainstay to 435.19mm

We strongly recommend you use the Gates Drive Calculator to figure out your gearing - it is a real help. We recommend starting with 430mm as a chainstay length. This will help you get a useful belt length when you plug in your preferred f

Spot Denver Zephyr
$3,899.00 $5,299.00 26% Savings
When Spot began the journey to create their first true road bike, the Denver Zephyr, they knew it had to be special—iconic in design and utterly dependable in performance. They found inspiration in an archetype of mid-century American transportation: the historic Denver Zephyr train. Its polished steel glinting in the sunlight, this marvel of efficiency, power and progress barreled across the Heartlands between Chicago and the Rockies. Spot’s Denver Zephyr may not be diesel powered, but it measures up to its namesake in all other regards: style, speed and on-time reliability. This is a classic brushed stainless steel road bike, made for the long haul, yet thoroughly modern in its features: tapered head tube, hydraulic disc brakes, Di2 electronic shifting. Spot added gentle bends to the bright steel frame’s seatstays and chainstays for subtle compliance—and, yes, a few style points. Knowing full well that Spot customers prize versatility, they added ample tire clearance for running up to 40c in the front and 35c in the rear to charge gravel roads. They included rack and fender mounts for randonneuring and super commuting. Years in development, no detail overlooked, they are proud to launch the Denver Zephyr. Like its namesake, Spot believes it will become an American classic.
Surly Straggler 650b
$1,549.00 - $1,799.00
Note: the pictures show a 50cm Straggler with some optional things on it. See Features for details. See that fire road? How about that gravel grinder you've always thought about doing? Of course, 99% of the time you're riding to work or just around town. Straggler is manufactured from Surly's favored chromoly tubing, paired with a lugged chromoly fork. The frame is responsive, nimble, super durable, and showcases steel's inherent ability to dampen road buzz. 650b wheels are a great size for smaller frames; they provide a zippy ride while leaving you with plenty of toe clearance, even with fenders. The Straggler also has clearance for 42mm tires, a full set of rack and fender eyelets, and custom rear dropouts that let you ride the bike singlespeed or geared. The wide-range SRAM Apex drivetrain will get you through all the ups and downs of any ride, and snappy SRAM Apex DoubleTap shifters make it easy to get through the gears. And control is easy with Hayes CX-Expert disc brakes, providing tons of all-weather, all-terrain stopping power. In fact, all the bikes Joe Bike carries come with disc brakes. Let's talk tires. We find the knobby Knard tires that the Straggler comes with excel on gravel or other shifty surfaces but actually are not bad for city riding either, as they take potholes and such with extra ease. That said, most Straggler buyers use the bike for city riding most of the time, and street tires hold better in the rain (on paved streets) than knobby tires, so we offer our customers an inexpensive swap to street tires if they want, either at time of purchase or up to a couple of weeks later.

Spot Acme
$2,049.00
We're now offering the Portlandistan kit, which normally costs over $300 including labor, for the list price of the base bike, $2249. (See Features for what's included). Or choose the base bike (including dynamo hub) for $2049. For 2017 Spot rolls out an improved Acme that includes a Shimano dynamo hub, leather saddle, leather grips, and polished alloy cockpit. It’s no secret that the hunched-over geometry of road bikes alienates many cyclists. Enter the Acme, a city bike that hums along at road speeds while also allowing you to actually enjoy the ride. Think of it as a Mercedes on two wheels. The Acme is lighter and faster than most city bikes, which means you get to work on time with ease. It features the most advanced, most reliable, most weatherproof, lowest maintenance, and cleanest drivetrain on the market. It has a belt instead of a chain, which means no need to oil it, no gunk, and no pants-eating. (The belt also last much longer than a chain). The Shimano Alfine 11-speed hub is also gunk-free and requires almost no maintenance. There are no derailleurs to maintain. Like a high-performance European sedan, the frame’s gently swooping curves convey understated elegance. It's a lightweight alloy and Spot's unique tubeset, along with Spot's own carbon fork. It's the Acme of modern urban riding: a finely tuned mix of precision engineering, style, innovation and speed. Rediscover the joy of cycling. Like all the models Joe Bike stocks, the Acme features all-weather disc brakes for superior stopping power, especially in the rain, and reduced maintenance versus rim brakes. Also like all the bikes we carry, the Acme features rack and fender mounts. It doesn't include dynamo lights, but you're in the right place for that, as we specialize in dynamo systems.
Soma Wolverine Gravelo 650b or 700c
$1,875.00 - $2,525.00
Think of the Wolverine Gravelo as an off-pavement randonneur, a 700c or 650b (your choice) 2 x 10 build that we've optimized for adventures far from pavement, where the deer and the antelope play in the middle of the road, just like you. There's a higher-level Gravelo, which we call the Powerplant build. It includes a Shutter Precision dynamo hub, a Busch & Mueller Luxos U front light that charges your phone or external battery, and a Busch & Mueller tail light (your choice depending on mounting position). If you do go with a dynamo hub, we suggest the 650b build in order to get current to your lights at lower speed. The Gravelo joins our other Soma Wolverine builds: the Daily Grinder city build and the Weltgrinder Rohloff touring build. We'll post pictures of the 650b build soon.

Soma Wolverine Touring Rohloff
$4,450.00 - $5,150.00
*650b Wolverine builds available on request. Now that the Wolverine has passed the stiffness test that lets us match Rohloff with belt drive, we've created the Weltgrinder, a complete touring build that gives you Rohloff's famously wide gear range and extraordinary durability along with Gates Carbon Drive for lower maintenance and greater longevity than a chain. Jones Loop carbon handlebars give you multiple hand positions for long days on the road, with superior positioning for both climbing and descending.* A Schmidt/Busch & Mueller dynamo system (or Schmidt/Klite for even brighter light) lets you charge smartphones and external battery packs while you pedal is part of the deal, as are front and rear racks(Jandd Extreme and Surly Formerly Known as Nice Rack, respectively). 36-spoke Velocity Dyad rims, Surly Knard 700 x 41 tires, Chris King headset, Thomson seatpost...you get the picture. The price includes all of these things; there's a nondynamo build and a dynamo build. Weltgrinder includes tons of American-made components like the Velocity rims, the Gates system, the Chris King headset, the Thomson seatpost, and the carbon Jones Loop Bars, along with the German-made hubs and lights, and let's not forget the English saddle. This is truly a bike built for the world. Are you grossly unfamiliar with Jones Loop bars? We could not explain their virtues better than this copy from the Jones website: Better handling and power output The shape of the Jones Loop bar really allows you to throw the bike around in technical situations. With your hands in the wide and rearward grip position you can keep your weight back and your arm stance wide for stable and controlled technical or steep downhill riding. This position is just like having a wide bar with a short stem, similar to a downhill or dirt jumping bike, but with more sweep. This additional sweep brings your arms in closer to your side to allow more comfortable and natural use of your arm and back muscles. The sweep also allows you to push and swing the bike side to side with more control and power. It's especially beneficial when climbing. These bars allow you to really get up on top of the pedals and grind out low cadence standing power for climbing in hard gears which is why the bar is so popular with single speeders. Your hands pull more towards your shoulders, a more natural 'pull' with stronger muscles. This allows you to push down with more force at the pedal. In extremely tight turns with the bar close to 90 degrees your outside arm and wrist is not taken to the edge of their flexible range as with traditional bars. This provides more control and stability on switch backs. More comfortable and ergonomic The sweep matches your natural hand and wrist positions creating a stronger hand and body position. With an H-Bar, your weight is evenly distributed across the width of your hand instead of being focused at the out side edge of your hand, the main cause of finger numbness. This 'even grip pressure' on the bar allows a better, more secure grip on the bar. This is especially nice if you chose to ride a fully rigid bike. The many and varied hand positions greatly reduce hand numbness and wrist pain. The H-Bar also reduces back pain since it has a range of hand positions from rear to front. This range allows you to move around and stretch your back. This is a bar you can ride all day.

Foundry Flyover Force 1
$3,450.00
We have a Flyer in size Medium at demo pricing. It has maybe 100 miles on it and is in pristine condition. Close-up photos available on request. 100% stock. Foundry's Flyover takes inspiration from their years of racing cyclocross with grit and determination. Building on everything they love about the Overland, Foundry added key features designed to make the Flyover the ideal cyclocross race bike. The heart of this baby is their proprietary 3Al/2.5V titanium tubing, which uses a combination of double and triple-butting profiles. It is paired with a tapered thru-axle Whisky No.9 carbon fork that delivers a buttery smooth ride with the performance you demand. SRAM’s Force 1 x 11-speed drivetrain delivers the gear range and crisp shifting you need to conquer every ride, and the Force hydraulic disc brakes provide tremendous control in all conditions. The Overland gets the Zipp Service Course SL treatment with high-performance lightweight bars, stem, and seatpost. With internal cable routing and abundant mud clearance to protect against excess buildup, the Flyover keeps performing at its best even in the nastiest conditions. With the Flyover, you’ll bomb down descents, hop barriers, and pedal through corners like never before.
Spot Acme Open (stepthrough)
$2,199.00
The 2017 Acme Open stepthrough features a Shimano dynamo hub, leather saddle, leather grips, and a polished cockpit. It features the most advanced, reliable—and clean--drivetrain on the market: a sealed 11 speed shifter mated to a smooth and strong belt drive. Let’s face it: chains and derailleurs are a greasy time suck, and time is money for cyclists on the go. And like a high-performance European sedan, the frame’s gently swooping curves convey understated elegance. Acme means “highest,” and this is the acme of modern urban riding: a finely tuned mix of precision engineering, style, innovation and speed. Rediscover the joy of cycling.
