Technology should make life simpler. Norco’s single-speed, belt-drive 2010 Vesta (MSRP $950; on sale as a 2010 model for $799) is a weatherproof, ultra-simple, nearly maintenance-free commuter with a silky smooth ride. It rocks as a single speed, but we now offer an Alfine-8 upgrade ($1199) an Alfine 11 upgrade ($1599), and a Nuvinci n360 ($1249) with flat bars only. If you’d rather stick with drop bars, we add Versa shifters and compressionless cable housing for $1399 (8-speed) and $1799 (11-speed). The n360 is essentially incompatible with drop bars.
Here’s an n360/belt Vesta on video:
¤ Reynolds 525 Chromoly frame with custom belt compatible drop-outs with integrated belt tensioning system (fixing rear flats does NOT require retensioning the belt and is actually easier and cleaner than with a chain-drive bike!)
¤ Innovation at its finest! Gates Carbon Belt Drive with a 55T front sprocket and 22T rear cog; equivalent to a 42Tx17T chain drive (50/24T recommended for 8-speed; 46/24T for 11-speed).
¤ Gates Carbon Drive- lighter, quieter, cleaner and several times longer lasting than a conventional chain
Joe Bike can modify the Vesta to accept an internally geared hub, including anything from a two-speed kickback to an Alfine 8 or 11, SRAM iMotion, Rohloff, etc. The Gates cogs for n360 are now expected in early 2012.
Note: Vestas are no longer available in 18″ and 22″; 16″ and 20″ are available.
