If you’re new to riding in the Portland rain, there are a couple of things you should know. First, wood and bamboo fenders are notably lighter than plastic and tend to last longer despite the rain. The common assumption is that it’s the other way around in both regards. Two, fenders and mudflaps aren’t just for keeping spray off yourself–they’re for protecting cyclists behind you from getting spray and grit in their eyes (as awakening as that feeling can be on a Monday-morning commute).
