Every now and then Anita enjoys riding a Halsted with a spare bicycle strapped to her back. It’s not good or bad, it’s just the way it is.
Not to be outdone, her partner Mike likes to trackstand the Halsted…with his Surly Creamroller lashed to the front basket. We just need him to take that second hand off the grip now.
So what’s the deal with this couple? They’re both world-ranking trackstand champions. Anita, who works at Joe Bike, races for our cyclocross team, and this past October she won the Cat B field of North America’s largest cyclocross race, Race 1 of the Cross Crusade series (and she won it on the Norco Threshold 2 strapped to her back above).
It gets even more romantic. Mike, a former Joe Bike service manager and sometime mechanic, and Anita closed out the cyclocross season racing in the same category (single speed) together, though injuries and such kept them from fully competing. Seeing them pace each other in the mud at Barton was sweet.
